What Magpie stores, how data moves, and what remains private.
What the extension reads
Only the page you are currently viewing, and only when you explicitly click the Magpie icon or press the keyboard shortcut. Magpie holds zero background permissions to read your tabs. Nothing is summarised on page load.
What reaches the server
When you request a summary, the text or transcript is transmitted over HTTPS to our API to generate your response. Summaries of public videos and articles are cached to serve other users instantly without repeating inference costs.
What is never stored
Anything behind an authenticated login, corporate intranet, or paywall is never cached or shared. Magpie does not index email content. Interactive Q&A questions are processed transiently and discarded.
Accounts and identifiers
Magpie does not require an account to use. An anonymous cryptographic token is generated on your machine to enforce daily rate limits. If you choose to sign in, we record only your email address to sync history.
Payments and analytics
Payment transactions are processed entirely by Stripe. Magpie never touches or stores your credit card details. Product telemetry records high-level event counts (such as quota checks and source duration) without logging titles, URLs, or summary text.
Deleting your data
To delete your account and synced history, send a request to hello@readmagpie.com. Account records will be removed immediately.
